Getting to know Dr. Moore

As you know, Texas Dogs & Cats has been bringing you closer to the Doctors that go out of their way daily to help our various types of pets in the Katy/ Ft. bend area. We are excited this month as we have an opportunity to let you know about Dr. Moore who has been practicing in the area for quite a few years and now has opened his very own practice in the Richmond area. We recently sat down with him and asked him all the questions that everyone wants to know.

Q. First off Dr. Moore, give us a little background on your education and what brought you to be a veterinarian.

A. I attended Dulles High School in East Fort Bend County, and graduated from vet school at Texas A&M in 1996 where is received my undergraduate and doctoral degrees. I was attending Dulles High School as senior and starting dating my future wife, Kim. I needed “date” money and applied at Stafford Oaks Veterinary hospital across from the high school. I have never worked in another profession since. I Went to work in Sugar Land at Stafford Oaks Veterinary Hospital in 1997 and eventually bought the practice in 1998.I operated and grew the practice until 2009.

Q. So you new location is a fair distance from the old hospital, why the move?

A. I wanted to be close to home and my family, so I bought the old Schultz Store in 2009. The building was built by the Sugar Factory in 1929. It served as a company store for the sugar plantations in the area. They hired the Schultz family to run the store in 1929. The family bought the store in 1946 and ran the Schultz Store until 1994. After that it was an antique/home furnishing store. I bought the store in 2009 and we renovated the building and opened in April 2010.

Q. So what are the plans for the new location?

A. I want a neighborhood friendly, family run veterinary hospital. We are creating a place that is enjoyable to hang out at and provides quality medicine and surgery. We are full service small animal surgery and medicine. We offer a full in house laboratory, digital radiology, and on-line pharmacy thru our website. Currently I am the only vet, but the plan would be a 2 doctor practice.

Q. So you mentioned your future wife, Kim. Tell us what life is like around the Moore house.

A. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Kim. Together we raise our two children; Mason, 8 and Rylee, 7. I have a black lab, “Bobby” and a Chihuahua, “Squeaky.”

Q. Do you work with any local groups or foundations in the area?

A. I am heavily involved with Arc of fort Bend, an organization that advocates for people with mental disabilities in Fort Bend County. I am a past board member, as well as a past board president. I currently serve on the board for the Arc of Fort Bend County Foundation. I regularly work for fund raising, including the “Best in the West” dance and the annual golf tournament. Both of these raise funds for the Arc of Fort Bend County. I also support the Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue for over ten years. I take care of their veterinary work and consulted about animal husbandry and medicine.

Dr. Moore is a fantastic veterinarian. He has been my personal vet for over ten years and I truly believe several of my dogs would not have lived to be 14 and 15 years old without his care!

He also is very in tune with the often very unusual requirements of the rescue dogs of Lone Star Shih Tzu & Lhasa Apso Rescue. Many of those dogs, too, would not be alive if not for Dr. Moore.

You cannot find a better, more caring, veterinarian in the greater Houston area.
