Deputies with the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 6 are investigating a break-in at the Houston Humane Society. It happened in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 17. That’s when thieves broke through a metal fence to access a storage facility located in the back of the property at 14700 Almeda. More than $10,000 worth of equipment was taken including several pressure washers, arc welders, commercial lawn care equipment, a trailer and a significant number of power and manual tools.
Security cameras caught the burglars in action who took their time, spending almost two hours casually removing equipment from the storage facility and into an awaiting vehicle (See attached video). Investigators also found important evidence at the scene including articles of clothing, a lid to a spray paint can and foot and fingerprints.
The burglary, according to Houston Humane Society Executive Director, Sherry Ferguson, has already created an extreme hardship on the animal charity. “As a nonprofit, this equipment is very difficult to come by. These items are things we use everyday at the shelter”, she said. “It’s heartbreaking that someone would steal from homeless animals. They’re so deserving of our time, our attention and funds in order to help give them a second chance”.
As Ferguson stated, the stolen equipment has significantly compromised the day-to-day operation of the The Houston Humane Society and as a result, the shelter needs your help.
